Lingering Smell/Taste

To remove any lingering odors or tastes, soak your Kanteen and cap overnight with hot water and baking soda, or white vinegar. Follow the soak with a good scrub using a scouring pad, aided by bottle brushes or straw brushes, as needed. [We do not recommend soaking the Bamboo Cap, but the silicone gasket can be removed and soaked.]

If this doesn't alleviate the issue, you may need to replace the silicone gaskets, since they can retain odors and flavors.

Metallic Taste

Klean Kanteen products are made from durable 18/8 stainless steel. The stainless steel that we use to manufacture our products is the same grade that is used most commonly in the food, beer and wine industries because it is easy to clean, durable, and does not impart flavors or leach chemicals into food or beverage contents.

If you have a metal allergy or a sensitive palate, you may detect a metallic taste. Sometimes switching to a Sport or Café Cap is a great solution, since those caps are Polypropylene and create a barrier between your mouth and the Kanteen itself.

Bottom Bulge

Kanteen products are made of 18/8 stainless steel, which can bulge at the bottom when contents freeze, or when the lower edges get dents on the corners.

Our non-insulated bottles can sometimes be tapped closer to their original shape. For bottom bulges, we recommend enlisting some help to stabilize the bottle on a sturdy, flat surface (without the cap), putting a board on top, and using a rubber mallet to knock it until it pops back in.

Dents

Klean Kanteen products are made of durable 18/8 stainless steel, however, they can dent during normal use. If we made them thicker to be more rigid, the bottles would be a lot heavier. Even if you've dented your bottle, it's still safe to continue to use.

If you dropped your bottle and dented it, odds are the dent is concave. For non- insulated bottles, you can put a wooden dowel or a wooden kitchen spoon inside the bottle and tap on the other end with a hammer to push the dent out. DO NOT use a metal object to bang the dent outward as the metal can get inside your Kanteen or even puncture your bottle. If you have an insulated bottle, attempting to fix it could damage the vacuum insulation.

Paint Chipping

The painted coating on our bottles can erode as a result of normal use as the bottle is handled and washed, and may rub against cup holders and bags. Because this is the nature of paint, some chipping is expected. If you have an older bottle with large flakes of paint coming off, please let us know.

To reduce wear and tear and prolong the life of your Klean Kanteen, we recommend more hand- washing than dishwashing of painted bottles with mild, biodegradable detergent. While they are dishwasher safe, regular exposure to high water pressure and temperatures in dishwashers can

cause the coating on painted bottles to deteriorate over time

Rattle

A rattle in your Kanteen means a small piece has become dislodged inside the walls. You can continue to use your bottle normally; it is still completely safe. However, the vacuum insulation may fail. If you notice the contents are not staying hot or cold, please contact our Guarantee Department.

TKCanister Lid – Stuck

Sorry to hear about the canister issue! The heat has likely created a vacuum seal and the gasket is sealed to the side of the canister, not allowing the lid to be raised when unscrewing. We recommend waiting a few minutes after putting the contents into the canister. While it's tempting to put the lid on right away to contain the heat, the canister is already insulating. This allows excess heat to escape and not create a vapor lock inside the canister.

Also, if you have a stuck lid, sometimes popping it in the freezer for a minute or two, allows the sides to pull away just enough to allow the lid to unscrew. The desire for leak- proof lids and well-insulated contents is a design balance for us with lids and caps that seal too well.

TKWide – Condensation

The small bit of condensation you are experiencing near the rim of your Kanteen is normal for our TKWide line. Since the threading of our TKWide products are narrower walled than the body of the vessels and our Accessory Caps do not contain insulation, condensation can sometimes be found around the top of the vessel. It is caused by the temperature difference between inside contents and outside air.

What you are experiencing has been accounted for during our testing and through our Quality department. It is not a defect and will not affect the performance of the bottle.

TKWide – Warm Below Cap

The threading of our TKWide products are narrower walled than the body of the vessels and our Accessory Caps do not contain insulation. If you put hot liquids in your TKWide, it is normal for it to feel warm to the touch in the area right below the cap or at the top of the vessel.
